How to Take Symbicort
Symbicort comes in MDI or metered dose inhalers. It is inhaled into the lungs with the help of these inhalers. The recommended dosage for using this inhaler is twice daily. There should be a minimum gap of 12 hours between two dosages.
If the inhaler has been kept unused for a week, you must test-spray it before use. To test spray, you need to shake the inhaler and press the canister top to spray it into the air. For test-spraying you must repeat this twice.
Before using this medication you must shake the inhaler gently. You must wait at least for one minute between two consecutive inhalations. After each dosage, you must rinse your mouth thoroughly; but make sure you do not swallow it. This will prevent the occurrence of thrush.
Learning to use the inhaler properly might require some time. Make sure that the medication is being inhaled into the lungs. Many people spray it into the back of the throat and swallow it. This is not the correct procedure. To inhale in into the lungs completely, you can try breathing in while taking the medication.
The mouthpiece of the inhaler should be placed at least an inch or two away from the mouth. There are approximately 120 sprays available. You must keep a track of the spray usage; so that you know when to replace it and do not run out of the medication.
